Tody Motmot

The Tody Motmot is one of the more elusive birds in Costa Rica, found only in the Cordillera de Guanacaste. Bijagua is one of the best places in the country to see these small birds, as they're year-round residents at Heliconias Rainforest Lodge, Tapir Valley, and Casa Motmot.

Certain times of year are better for viewing these birds. In the dry season (January through May), they are nesting and can be challenging to see. In the wet months, especially around October, you'll hear them everywhere in the forest and they'll respond to whistles.
